123-Deal, the road to subordination in geo-politics
by Chakravarthy Muralidhar on Aug 29, 2007 04:32 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

The path to greatness, whether for an individual or a nation,is always strewn with obstacles and hazards. The individual (or the nation) that works hard,diligently,intelligently,self-reliantly and selflessly alone succeeds and is crowned with glory, fame without asking for it!The whole community/ entire world look upon such individuals/nations for inspiration and willingly accepts their leadeship. That is what India learnt in these 33 years of nuke isolation. For,Indian scientists & engineers worked hard, relentlessly in the face of jeers, insults, taunts and discouragement from US & Europe when she embarked upon Fast Breeder tech.Today India is 3 decades ahead of US in this cutting edge application in civil nuke tech.Yet,inconsolably sadly, the PM and his underlings want to give away all that leadership by signing a deal in which India is the "receiver state" and US and even small insignificant countries like Denmark,Hollant,Australia,Norway are all technology "givers".That is the essence of going to IAEA and NSG to seek their approval of 123-Deal in which India and US have explicitly the roles of "Receiver" and "Giver" respectively.

Real greatness for India lies in foregoing this soft option and strive on on the lonely path towards total independence and achieve the status of a tech giant and pioneer by developing the Thorium cycle at least 2 decades ahead of original plan by building a chain of 4-5 1500-2000 MW FBRs instead of sticking to "no risk to my backseat" approach.

good info and thoughts ...but the prob is that many influential persons in india don't like India to be self-reliant ...and many of them (specially NRIs) hav vested interests in this deal

Dear Door Drishti
I am an NRI. I want India to be self reliant as much as people in India want. Pls do not generalise. I left India 8 yrs back and in these 8 yrs, image of India has dramatically changed. We are considered a great nation now. I am extremely proud of this newly acquired status of my country.
