All the morons who are writing in the forums thing that it is a communisit vs. capitalism issue. In reality you all forgot the India's future interest and benefit on this deal. The nuclear deal is not GOOD FOR INDIA in the current format and it must be renogitated with INDIA'S interests in mind!.
All those morons dont understand that once we agree to this deal and set-up our plants and everything by investing huge amount of money and we do any test the deal is scrapped, uranium input stops and our plants are out of fuel and our investment is a waste!.

This is about the deal not about the parties!. Politics aside this deal in the current format is not good for India's long term interest regardless of who opposes or support it!. We have to use objectivity to understand the issue what china or pak or communists or capitalists and so on. This deal should eb viewed in India's point of view, not some prismatic view of certain parties!. AS a individual I see that this deal is not good in this particular format1. It must be renegotiated to uphold India's interests!. and I see that congress isnt taking a hard-stand on this!.

Mr. Shadow pls come under the sun. We have 30% of world's Thorium reserves.We will be self reliant only once our Thorium reactors come in force which is some yrs away.But even this technology would require some (nominal) use of Plutonium for the initial cycle.The idea is to generate this from reproceesed spent fuel & use it in Thorium reactors. Hence, in Ndeal we insisted on reprocessing rights over the spent nuclear fuel so that we have enough Plutonium to run our Thorium reactors.Our own meager Uranium reserves will then be purely for military use.We have only 0.8% of world reserves that cannot last long & serve both civilian & defence purpose. What do u propose to do once our Uranium reserves r exhausted??? Sit with folded hands & beg the world for relief & u expect the same countries to come to help u when u r weak & vulnerable & dependent on them. Talk sense Sir. If 2day frm position of strength u cannot talk what will happen then??
How will u overcome your energy needs till the thorium reactors come into operation???

@mr.
India has enough thorium deposits (2nd in the world) and good deal of Uranium. India doesn't have to get into this deal in a urgent manner that compromises its long term future!.

Shadow, First make a Thorium plant in your backyard which generates power and then talk

Don't talk like an idiot - Thorium is unproven technology and not a single KW of electricity gets produced commercially nor do I believe India's scientists have wherewithal to exploit that. Lets not forget that India's first bomb was built using US gifted reactor and Uranium and they still could not do much about it. Furthermore - once you have the Uranium, power automatically shifts to you. Conducting nuclear test is a theoretical possibility and if we need to do , no one can stop that. US has a right after that to have good relationship with India or not and how US reacts to India will depend on how rich and powerful we are then. Hopefully we would be by then. So Shadow - you seem to be either an Islamist or a Chinese agent - both of which are enemies of India. 95% of educated Indians support the deal.

Where did you get the idea that the deal will be terminated due to conditions you mentioned?

I think its upto US to terminate the deal whenever it feels like. India has a right to terminate the deal as well. You do not get into a marriage with the assumption that it will end in divorce in which case it certainly will. US is giving Uranium to India for commercial and strategic reasons and India needs these technologies primarily because 1) we do not have U235 2) we are running out of water 3) use of coal and fossil fuel for generating power is already destroying environment in South Asia and is not a good idea to piss in your own pond. But - nothing in the act says India cannot test nuclear weapons. All its says is that US can terminate the deal and take back balance material at cost price - and this clause is just to satisfy the US Congress. Anyone with half a brain will tell you that once you have nukes - no one will dare act funny with you. Ever wondered why Pakistan gets away with murder ?
