Some facts about nuclear power plants
by on Aug 22, 2007 04:44 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

In 2002, 360 Gwe (Giga Watt Electrical) produced from nuclear energy in this world. It is 16 % of total production.

Spent uranium must be guarded for about 15000 years. Plutonium for 75000 - 100,000 years.

Every year the world%u2019s 442 nuclear power plants produce 12000 tones of radioactive waste.
UK has 90 tones of plutonium waste. Disposing this costs about US $ 93 billion.

Cost of nuclear plant is 3 times of fossil fuel plants.

Completion takes 12 to 15 years blocking return on the capital investment.in fact, from blue print to electricity production stage it will take 25-30 years.

Rs 10,00,000 crores are spent on nuclear power infrastructure by Indian govt. the return is 3% electricity and massive waste of resource.

Capital cost at price level of 1997-98 nuclear plants would cost Rs 5.23 crores/MW and Rs 3.75 Crores/MW for thermal plants.

There are countries thinking about shutting down all nuclear power plants.

main thing is all reactor made in india and only uranium import in india allready thorium found in India. some percent thorium add in uranium to make some more valuable result. main profit of this energy is pollution free.and more comfort to coal energy. because limited stalk of coal all over the world. and problem of global warming is more serious. disposal cost of plutonium waste is not valuable in more this advantages loose ur money purchase electricity from Enron. But don't invest in technology. This is very shameless thing

6% energy is more valuable in india because all business depend on this electricity. out of 100 some 60% electricity in the hydro energy 40% electricity in the coal energy. and presence another 6% electricity is come from nuclear energy.60 40 6=106 this 6% more profit to india economy.

The Americans who rejected the Kyoto protocol now coming to us and saying that we Indian has to care about the environment and use their nuclear technologies to save the earth. That%u2019s shame.

Why we have to go for Enron. We have NTPC, BHEL kind of firms who are building plants all over the work. We the only people don%u2019t like them and didn%u2019t give the chance for Dhabol power plant and gave that to Enron. Finally Enron looted our money. Why we are shutting our eyes to world standard Indian companies. Does our patriotism only exist in silver screen and cricket fields?

We have coal reserves and also we have to get the Iran gas pipeline. Power plants have to be built by NTPC and BHEL kind of companies. So in few years we can generate more power than waiting for 30 years to build one nuclear plant, its costliest power and blocking the taxpayer%u2019s money for that much time.

How you can say nuclear power is pollution free. The pollution starts from mining, refining, transportation, enrichment and final waste disposal. In all level it generates radiation and all other infrastructure for this uses fossil fuel. You cannot isolate the power generation part. That plant is not simply appearing. 30 years of construction means how much resource will it eat? where you account for all these pollution.

The sad thing is that nobody is taking about the economy of nuclear plant. Yesterday I saw CNN IBN news they are saying, this is a good chance to get nuclear plant, otherwise Chinese or Pakistanis get take away that chance. Is this a cloths sale kind of situation? %u201CIf you buy one T Shirt you will get one free!%u201D. Everybody (Govt, channels, corporate) are in a hurry to get these chance. Is this channels are working for Americans?

You can be left or right or what ever. But all ways keep track of the money flow. If the money is not going out of India its good for Indians and if the money is going out (old tile it was East India Company, now its multinationals and agreement like Nuclear deal) we are getting poorer.
