Thorium reserves
by George on Aug 21, 2007 09:35 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

India has 32 per cent of world's thorium reserves in the sands of Kerala. We should concentrate on developing technology that can use thorium to generate electricity than signing this crap deal with US, selling our sovereignty.

Kerala is engulfed by Wahabism in Mallapuram. They will bomb the nuclear plants, kill some of the christians who might work in it and send the thorium to Pakistan and Saudi.

@Sam If you don't know, Kerala has minimal or no cases of terrorism/naxalism/underworld related violence. And its not necessary to construct nuclear plants in kerala to extract the thorium.

Why do you want to depend on US for our power, when we can produce our own. I am not a supporter of the left or the bjp

Well.. Marad was definitely a case a communal riot, but it was simply blown out of propotion, cause such things doesnt happen often in kerala. As far as i can remember less than 10 people died in the incident. Compare it to other instances of communal violence in the country and you will see the difference.

In response to the thorium fuel cycle.
a. Requires uranium feed too.
b. Technology not yet begun by india. Needs at-least 15-20 years to perfect.
c. No one else is working on it.
d. Even if someone else is successful, there is no way they are going to pass the tech to you.

No one passes tech for free. Also as clearly mentioned by Bush and others they are not going to pass tech for India to build bombs or other offensive weapons. In other words there will still be technology controls in effect and dual tech will not be passed easily. In return MMS promised not to circumvent US laws with regards technology.
I must say this, for the United States this is one of the best deals they can get. Cap on nuclear research, CTBT, FCMT exclusive to India, compliance of India to obey US technology export laws, no promise to supply dual use tech, plus export potentials of Nuclear and arms and finally getting the Indian government to act as poodles. Any american citizen should be proud of their negotiators & president atleast for this.

You talk as if only US can develop new technology.
We have intellectual ability to develop the technology to produce energy from thorium, and it wont take decades to do it.We do not need anyone else technology, remember we developed our own nuclear bombs.
We have both the fuel and intellectual ability and we should stick to it.

George, How much India has developed tech, Indians know. We have progressed but not at the level of advance nucl tech countries like US. We have IIT, IIM here but why we go to Harvard or any other US university????? We have IT companies here but why we want to go to US on H1???? Its for getting advantage what others have and implement it in your own home.. Technology is like education and there is no harm to gain it.. And there is always a cost when you are gaining some thing.. Its own you how judge whether its costly or reasonable...

I would like to make few corrections in the line. The current power reactors operating in India those include PWR& PHWR are based on Canadian and Russian technology which is now outdated and only india has these operating reactors.Even the research reactor CIRUS in Trombay was made by Canada.Indian have done reverse engineering to upgrade those design and constructed a few new reactors. In 50 years time indian intellectual have mastered the PHWR reverse engineering with the help of others not themselves.Indian nuclear establishment has severe problems which are not known to outer world. There are persons in service who comes from third grades colleges. No one from indian top institutions like IITs or other reputed colleges join DAE becuase of the better oppotunities available for them outside.Hence it will be unfaire to expact from our intellectual to develope thorium based technology in near future without the help of some advanced countries which are having with them technological know how of thorium fuel cycle.India has its program from very begining to develop thorium technology and work is going on this since last 40 years. The IGCAR Kalpakkam centre is dedicated to this cause only. But the outcome of this is frastrating and we are still working on developing the prototype of the technology. The much of the nuclear work was done by the great BHABHA and his companions upto early 70's.Dr.manmohan singh is a educated person and understand the logic behind the scne hence i would sa

Mr Aslam, all said and done we love America and their freedom etc which is the Hindu way.
Your illegitimate saudi parents tear our Hindu gods photos and trample upon our relgious symbols. Pls criticize them for doing so and then claim anything on India. Till then your religion Islam has committed crimes on other people on the earth. You must denounce the islmic way of hurting other peoples, civilizations and way of life. If you love your Islam way so much then it is best your followers go and live in the desert and begin planting of bombs and grow crops of your children who will be terrorists one day. Pls leave us Indians alone. your comments are not welcome.
