It's a matter of National Interest, neither left, not right issue:
by SANTANU RAY on Aug 13, 2007 11:38 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

May I ask the people here about the nature of 123 Agreement that India and US is going to materialise? How many of you actually read the document and realise the fact that actually the agreement might tighten US grip over India's nuclear research.
There are lot of serious concerns about some points in the agreement and I just write some of them. I think being an Indian is more important than supporting left or right, and we all have our self respect as proud Indians.

1. Annual certification and reporting to the US Congress by the President on a variety of foreign policy issues such as India%u2019s foreign policy being ?congruent to that of the United States? and more specifically India joining US efforts in isolating and even sanctioning Iran [Section 104g(2) E(i)]
2. Indian participation and formal declaration of support for the US? Highly controversial Proliferation Security Initiative including the illegal policy of interdiction of vessels in international waters [Section 104g(2) K]

How many of you would like to see that Indian foreign policy is decided by US President? How many of you would love to be disliked by the rest of the world as being an ally of US? How many of you would love to loose the respect that Indians get as being the leader of non allied movement?
Ask your self first before replying. It is not an issue of whether supporting left or not, but an issue of national interest. And we all are proud Indians.

Yes. It is true that there are some concerns over this nuclear deal with US. India stands to lose in case of a Nuclear Test. In the event of an N-Test, India will no longer receive nuclear fuel from US. But this is not the issue with the CPM and the Left. They want to oppose this deal because this deal is with the USA. And the USA is not communist. Had this deal been signed with China, the same Left which is barking now, would have threatened the UPA to "sign" it, as it is in "their" interest or else face dire consequences. Reason, Chian is communists, although not in the true sense, but the purpose of the left is served.

hello Santanu ... forget our national pride or asking each of us to prove within ourselves. May I ask u to provide us with alternative sources of Energy which does not involve burning of fossils fuels? As we are strapped for technical know-how to garner enough wind & Solar energy ... any healthy suggestions u may have to share with us?

@ Kyon Bataon,
My point was not that we shouldn't go ahead with the deal, my point was that we don't loose our respect and pride. My point was not supporting left, my point was concern over US influence over Indian foreign policy.
I didn't say that we donot need nuclear power, but my point was how much we pay in return of that. Are we ready to sale our country and its policies in return of the nuclear fuels?
What I said, consider the fact that never believe US. And it is proved that US can never be trusted.
You know that friend.

MR. RAY,

I would rquest you to kindly read the 22 page 123 agreement once again. I guess you have misunderstood it and cant see the benefit that India would get through this deal. Please get ur basics correct.
And I guess its useless to explian it here in this forum, especially to people with attitude like u.

@Mr Dilip
What is wrong with my attitude? What I want is that we donot loose our national interest. We donot sale our country and its policies to United States of America. Sorry for being a bit rude about that "people hardly read the actual document", my point was to make sure we donot start just opposing left rather thinking twice before the actual deal is completed.
I am ready to learn from you if I had understood something wrong about the deal.
