Do you know what they have done in their respective fields before labeling them as "controversial" ?

Salman Rushdie was awarded Bookers Prize for his book "Midnight Children" which is also considered the best book to win Bookers Prize in 25 years.

These people Taslima, Rushdie have contributed much to literature and if future writers don't take inspiration from them, then what literature will we have? Champak ?

These people (writers, poets, thinkers, philosophers) you may not think as big money earners, but they shape the society. I can give you many examples, but I think you need to read history a little.
