What would Gandhi do?
by Satya ss on Aug 05, 2007 08:59 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

I am interested in knowing how Gandhi will deal with terrorist and people having illegal arms. I guess Gandhi would have himself been blown to pieces by terrorism so he won;t be alive to do anything. While Gandhi's principles are honorable, it is outdated. In his methods you could reason with the bad guy..but in modern world no one has patience to reason, which is why the law has to be iron handed and punish the guilty. In USA the punishment for video piracy is 5yr in prison, Surely terrorism is much worse than video piracy, and deserves more punishment. Sanjay should be lucky to have just got 6yrs. Imagine if had known the truth about the blasts and still shut himself up.
If the public wants more gandhigiri, there are plenty of actors around, let Sanjay rot in jail for having been in the company of BAD people and traitors.....NO MERCY..but that's only me.

There was terrorism even during the gandhi days but with another name! But even terrorists of those days revered gandhi unlike some of our gandhi haters.

HAHAHAHA! terrorist respecting Gandhi..What a joke ..And who killed him?
Gandhi's principles can not be applied in modern world period. And what just because Sanjay aped Gandhi's principles on big screen he should be pardoned? Why don't you go and tell the terrorist "Sir you have bombed Mumbai, why don;t you try delhi, our police will make all arrangements so you can peacefully explode the bomb and kill another hundred innocent people".
I believe in Mahabaratha or Ramayana where the cruel have to be punished even by death. I believe in Gandhi's principles in the way i live my life, repecting others and being simple. BUT i do not let Gandhi's principles of pacifying with terrorists as a govt policy. Terrorists have to be shown the boot ..no question. All iam saying is the author is trying to be utterly stupid in saying "a guy should be pardoned because he is a gandhian". Sanju is a THUG..before, now and ever after, trying to pretend like GANDHI...hehehe whom are you befooling dude..

Its too simplistic to apply the exactly same Gandhian principles now, because the enemy is not our ruler, and the enemy is not overt. Gandhian principles worked because they frustrated the oppressive rulers into submission. Applying the same thing here is very naive, and so is assuming that he would have acted in the same way.

The whole world has "combated" terrorism for so many years. Why hasn't it ended yet? In fact it has only worsened, not only because of the nature of terrorism, but those who fight it have selfish motives of their own which leads to even greater disillusionment. I am all for eliminating terrorists IF I can trust my government to act solely in the best interests of the nation while doing so, and not their own political agendas.
