Floods & Drought
by shiva on Aug 02, 2007 07:32 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

While the floods would have come without warning, it again emphasises the point that water scarcity need not be a problem at all in India.

Had we done the homework on interlinking rivers, we could have benifited from this calamity and could have turned this into an advantage. Many years back there was a cartoon by R K Laxman. There was a request for drought relief. Then the state was overcome by floods. The SOS went " Our request still stands - but change drought relief into flood relief"

It is never too late. President Kalam was always exhorting for river linking. We cry over lack of drinking water.

God helps those who help themselves - of corse not in the meaning of some, who help themseves at others cost always.
