while in court, to save his ass, he would obviously say that he kept the weapon to protect his family. the judge is not as naive as you to believe it. if you mess with law and deal with people like abu salem and dawood ibrahim, you go to jail. its as simple as that.

Unfortunately I guess there is nothing in India for self protection.If you are attacked by someone who has a gun say a dacoit and you posses an arm to defend, you attack the attacker you will be imprisoned just because you defended yourself and killed the "innocent" hahaha and you owned a gun.He initially put 18 months in jail what was that for?.Why did the law wait again to give another 6years.Where taken off for a nap or coffee or busy taking under the table.
