If one thinks that in India divorce rate are low and that is because of our family value system etc, they are flying kites. Give every woman 25 lac rupees, her kids and protection from the husband. Then 75% women will leave their husband. Most of the women stay with their husband as they are not economically sound and they have no where to go. This is beautiful example: as soon as women become economically sound they can decide they do not take any shit from anyone.
I have seen so many cases where couples are not happy but the marriage goes on.
The fact of the matter is we criticize USA and western countries for their divorce rate, and want to believe that we are great and our family values are great. It%u2019s not true the only difference between west and us is that our women are dependent and there they are independent.

May not exactly true. I have seen so many women teachers, bank employ from last 30 years, both husband and wife working,(where she can be economicaly indipendednt) but there was not that much divorse. Problem is some thing else.

I am happy for married people who have found their true life partners ..but in small cities where everybody knows every1;divorce carries social stigma and that can be another reason y economically independent women are afraid to divorce...... this is not the same in big cities where people hardly know each other and hence couples are not afraid to divorce

Agree, along with economics, it is the society stigma of being divorced, shunning by family members...
The society andstate needs to stand up for abused women.
