Its saddening to see that many readers have applauded the killing of Sohrabuddin on the grounds that he was a known anti-social element. This is not correct: what they do to Sohrabuddin today, they could also do to a more innocent person tomorrow, and even then, it would take some intelligent journo like Mr.Dayal to dig up the facts! There's no rule-of-law, and that means all of us have to live under fear of even being killed, and labelled as extortionists by the government later.
Folks, please see this issue as a larger one of civil rights and government accountability, rather than in simplistic terms such as "One more goonda is dead"

I completely agree with you. Fake encounters are "out-of-court" way of doing justice and not suitable to any civilized country. Be it in Mumbai, Gujarat or Kashmir

Sriram, U know only one part of the story .. In India, there is too much of democracy due to which the goons and goondas are distorting the law and are having goonda raaj .. so I would rather encourage the Police to kill such goondas in encounter rather than get myself killed at the hands of some such goonda for any trifle reason .. and mind U, if me or U gets killed at the hands of such goonda in broad daylight, there would not be any body to testify against the murderers .. so this goonda raaj must come to an end ... or else the whole of India will become what is kashmir today ...
