Because he was their most famous student? Perhaps because his work was the only real documentation of what went on at Nalanda? Perhaps because his work made nalanda known outside the region? Dont be such a racist... If he was their best student or major contributor towards the university's prestige, he should be recognized.

It's got nothing to do with racism, only national pride. It's just that we indians are quick to recognize the contribution of foreigners in any field but also quick to put ourselves down. Surely there were founders/teachers/artists etc. who actively built up the univ and made it what it was.

He might have documented some things, but the famous scientists like Aryabhatta, Varaha mihira are from Nalanda university. They studied there, worked as professors and researched there. You should recognise and remember Aryabhatta for contributing 'ZERO' to the world. I don't think the chinese guy was the most famous student.
