No Reservation
by Guru Prasad on Apr 24, 2007 02:06 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

It is really nice to hear that Nalanda will be rebuilt.. Hope and Wish it will regain the past glory..
At the same time, I hope this University will be free from our corruct @sshole politicians and will purely admit students based on their Merit and not by their caste.. This would be the day we dream of having a world class univiersity which is built on the foundation of knowledge but not vote bank...

Till Nalanda, all the Gurukula's did not admit student's on the basis of merit, but on the basis of caste and kept out the non twice-born. Nalanda, with its Buddhist influence firmly rejected the caste based admission and admitted anyone with a thirst for knowledge.

Nalanda was a pioneer in another way. It did away with another lind of reservation which is practised in India - jobs in universities for Indian nationals only. One of the reasons why US universities are so good is that they attract and retain talent from all over the world. Wonder why no one bother's about this kind of reervation.

Totally agree with u, and part of that responsibility is with us. If any politician interefers with this Univ (like Arjun Singh) it is my right to put him down and I will.
