Turnout for UP polls fourth phase
by Goru Chagol on Apr 23, 2007 09:27 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

We Indian are so unfortunate to be ruled by people who get elected by merely few votes. Average turnout in India is 50-60%. So many people's names are not there in voter lists, out of those 50-60% there is bogus voting. so taken in considerations all these things, one can see that the winner might have got may be 10% vote only. This whole system sucks and is a black spot in the name of democracy. Only way this can be solved is by educating people and the politicians won't allow to do that because they cannot fool people. It's really unfortunate to have a crap election system in India. This simply failed miserably.

FYI,
50-60 is a good %
In most advanced democratic countries, % is even lower!
What is important is if the people who vote are informed voters (I hate to call illiterate because many illiterates have better information and judgement than educated) or are they just voting because of some agenda (money, threat or love for caste etc)
So what is important is to encourage informed people to vote rather than just write comments here
