Ram Kelkar has really thrown some light on the real problem of the issue...it is the backward class not caste...
here I would like to say few words about myself...I have come from so called forward caste..I completed my schooling in a village..my father could not afford a school fee of Rs. 400 per annum and therefore put me in a government school. I passed out X standard in 1992. I never got proper time to spend for studying. after school hours I used to go to field and during holidays I used to work in fields. my conditions did not permit me to play also..either work or study still I stood first through out schooling..
after tenth I did diploma..just because I got 51 st rank in that....after diploma my parents could not afford engineering...so I started doing jobs but conscience used to struggle a lot to do higher education..I read about CS in news papers and enquired...I enrolled for CS. I used to give tutions for my survival and completed CS with lot of struggles....
why I am narrating all this is I did not get any support from any angle either from family or goverment...I used to live in pathetic conditions during education..
at the same time...I have seen my friends...so called back ward classes they used to get schollar ships for them getting seat is not a problem after that they get good amount of schollar ships. I have seen friends after their education their join some course only for scholarships...
government is not bothered whether they really required it or not...they just make reservations and scholarships based on caste..this is really a crime...
may god give our politicians the conscience to make them to understand that there are innumerable poor people from forward castes..and innumerable rich people from so called backward castes..
In my village, when I generally assess how much percentage in forward caste are poor..astonishingly I found..more than 50% are poor...
the percentages may vary from place to place and caste to caste...but backwardness must be based on their economic class not on caste.
Current situation in India, is whoever is economically strong...he/she or that group is dominating in all areas, whether education, politics, business, jobs, etc...and whoever is economically weak are surrendering and becoming slaves..no matter which caste they belong to..

Great piece of writing. I think the time is not far when the so called forward castes will have to pick up the gun and shoot all these politicians.

Sir ji, mr kalker will not understand ur problem. He has put his hands on his eyes and refused to see the real truth. The fact may be that either he want to gain cheap publicity or simply he would be planning to get into politics. I think education is useless for such people which they cant make their thinking mature.

Kudos to you my friend. This is the point all you OBCs out there. Caste does not determine anything in todays india. Poverty afflicts every one, and it is that we need to deal with. Giving blanket reservation on the basis of caste is useless. Does Deve Gowda's grandsons who drive around in BMWs be provided with the option of reservation? Does Karunanidhis grandsoms and daughters get such a reservation, when they are all billionaires? If these guys can get it, then why not a poor Brahmin kid in a remote village of UP. Is it that kids fault that he or she was born an upper caste. It is people like EPR Palem we need in India, and not idiots who want freebies in the name of quotas!
