Mr. Prags gandhi, remove your sun glasses and look around. Do you know what is poverty? You are questioning poor labourers' right to sleep on the pavement and not that of Pereira boozing and driving at 1 A.M. People like you are responsible for having chidren like Alister Pereira around becasue you question the other person for everything your children do!

mr kumar, i am not condoning alistair at all and looking at his smug face all the time in news papaers and tv channels makes me want to kill him on the spot. poverty is no excuse to encroach on public space all the time. how would you like it if a shanty comes right in front of ur house by ppl giving the same excuse "poverty" every open space is being encroached upon in the name of poverty. so what abt the rights of citizens who pay their taxes on time and not even get basic facilities like pavements to walk on. i dont give a damn abt alister and he should be fined the max amount and given the harshest punishment but unless the pavements and roads are free of ppl sleeping in night, there are going to be more cases like this and all may not be only because of drunken driving

Dear Mr.Gandhi, true that no private person would allow a poor man to sleep inside his compound, the reason why they sleep on the pavements and these are the poor ones who have migrated from rural areas seeking daily labour. Just sleeping on the pavement doesnt entitle them to get killed by drunken brats. Mr. pereira would have killed anybody on that day- a shopper closing his shop, a scooterist, or a commuter getting down the bus or you, going home after later hours work!.

for how long are we going to accept this reasoning that just being poor allows you to encroach upon public property. even china has the same population and as many poor ppl as india but nowhere in any major cities would u see ppl living on the pavement. i agree alistair was drunk and deserves the strictest punishment but if you are thinking that by punishing him, the problem will be solved, then forget it. i agree many are poor but many also get rehabilation from the govt but they sell it and again come back on roads so that they are eligible for another house on the slum rehabilation scheme. just take away the voting rights of these ppl and then see how many political parties support them

BMP shouldn't allow people to sleep near roads because its dangerous. Any vehicle can lose control & run over them - it could be car, lorry, bus, bike, etc. Yeah they are poor but that doesn't mean they can endanger their lives. I have to find a safe place. They shouldn't be allowed to sleep on dividers, on roads and close to roads, where they could roll on to roads. Its very difficult to spot these in ill-lit roads. Of course, drunken driver should be punished.

precisely what i am trying to say. No matter what happens to alistair, its not going to stop these deaths or accidents till the time ppl sleep on the roads.
