The article mentioned above, is true, in UP and also in many parts of the country. Thats why we still remain as developing country even after over 50 years of our independence!
In Bihar, UP, and in certain pockets of Haryana, goondas rule the territory. They terrorise the voters to vote for a particular candidate, and the police do not take any action on such goondas!. It is a 'sangam' of criminals, corrupts, casteists, politicians. In Tamil Nadu, the parties try to get votes by offering freebies like free television sets, bicycles, land, etc. Honest, and law abiding citizens have no voice in this country. Even if they go to Police Stations or Courts, 99% chances are that they do not get any justice, instead they are put behind bars and tortured by false cases. I think people will not forget easily, when new cars were taken from show rooms in broad daylight, to ferry the guests, during the marriage of the daughter of the then CM, and the Police stoodby as mute spectators. To manage election related expenses, kidnapping rich peoples' children and demanding ransom is a common phenomena in UP, Bihar, and also in some other parts of the country!.
All these will come to an end, only when the election commission ensures with an iron hand that criminals are not allowed to participate in the election process (I wonder how this would be possible, when a large portion of people ruling this country belong to this category!), and the people vote and elect their representatives based on pure merit and integrity of the candidates. I wonder whether we will live to see such a day in this country!
