Thorium in place of Uranium
by rahul chowdary on Apr 12, 2007 04:54 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Mr Subrahmanyam,
What you have implied in the latter part of your article is the lack of uranium is holding back the Indian Nuclear programing. While to a certain extent your statement is correct , your overall conclusions aren't. It so happens that India and China are currently researching the use of Thorium as fertile fuel(this to normal people means fuel burnt along side enriched Uranium in a reactor). I say this with confidence that given 3-5 years there would be a successful thorium reactor in india.
Question now is why Thorium , well india has the world's largest supply of thorium and a thorium cycle eventually leads to a uranium cycle.(its daughter upon fission is Thorium). So there ..some thing for everyone to cheer about.

Cheers
Rahul..

vow..
That's exciting news..
If we could somehow tap thorium ...that would be EXCELLENT!!
then we don't have to worry about this stupid nuclear deal with US.. which in my best belief is BAD for India!

Yes sir, that's great. Let me add: two Thorium prototype reactors are already constructed and run succesfully. India is first, and only power, in world to master Thorium technology. India's exclusive abilities in both Tritium and Thorium give it unique advantage in the world. Deal with US is merely political instrument. US is the arrogant salesman, but to appease the world of NSG they treat India without respect. What kind of salesman tries to insult the customer? US was the initiator behind NSG and now they are victim of it themselves!! Backfire: they've cut their own sales hands. While India has growing Indigenous and Independent through new tech, Uranium import is becoming unneeded. Nuclear deal was an excuse India gave to US to become friends. India does not need it, it was only a sentiment. Apparently USA is still too immature in international diplomacy. Never mind, I believe USA & India have great destiny to reconciliate the bad times and establish new hope for humanity and world.
