response to \'sex sting\'
by sweta on Oct 18, 2006 09:31 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

The basic problem in this issue is that it is easy to access with full animosity of the offender as well as victim;sex always attracts human minds irrespective of age, setting the stage just right for these intelligent minds.
i believe, the fear factor of getting caught and being penalised should definitely go a long way in preventing this chatting business from turning into a henious crime as with any other crime,a minor can involve in this for pleasure as an adult does, both are equally to blame!
but the solution lies in our minds, what we think& feel is right/wrong.
question is how do we prevent potential minds not to do this out of their own will, ethics& morals being decisive factors & not merely for fear of getting caught?

Well said. this kind of crime is happening mainly because, most will think that nobody is noticing them and can do anything. And more over it is free. At this moment, I can think of two possible (?) solutions.
1) restricting famous chat vendors (like yahoo) not to give chating for free.
2) forcing the chat vendors, to collect users personal ids (SSN, Credit card etc) and validate their name/geneder/age correctness and display on chat windows. If people original name gets displyed on chat window, no body does this kind of crime.
Ofcourse, it is not possible to restrict all the vendors, but if we restrict the top 10, 95% of crime gets stopped.
