Rajeev:: First of all it seems you are not only less "educated", but also arrogant which is out of ignorance. You need to read India's history well, have tolerance for all parts/cultures of India and really feel yourself proud being an Indian. Political writings (your title is apt : Shadow Warrior) like these does not go a long way.
Above all, I would ask the Rediff guys to stop publishing these articles which is full of vandalism and hollow material. Its a sheer shame that you are operated and allowed to write these, just because your country allows you do so.
This is being Indian. Most of the South Indians (And I really feel bad for them as this is due to political propaganda) you meet outside, be it Wasignton/Tokyo (whenever I meet them during travel), will burst in his language and the identity is always local. It is so shameful. But you meet anybody else, they will tell they from India first, not XXX state. Also, I can talk with a Pakistani in a language which both (and its an enemy for 50 years), but NOT with these folks. This led to a British invasion for 200 yrs (divide and rule).
Just stop writing such non-sensical articles. May GOD give you some sense.

I am from south and i really think south indians really need to adopt themselves to become part of india.. Every time they go to other part of India for anything, they feel like fish without water.
In mumbai where i frequent mostly, nobody gives you a different look ..or asks you where you are from. In chennai, it is still a huge problem if one can not talk tamil...as Narain Karthikeyan told south has become a closed society. It really needs to open up.
My Mother Tongue is not Hindi. But, I have no bad feelings towards it and I know the language. My Mother Tongue is not Tamil (and many more languages for that matter), I neither have any bad feeling for them and I know them as well! My point is simple, how can someone who is just 25/27 years old (for that matter even if you are 60 years old), question a civilization which is 2,000+ years old!! (which this pseudo intellectual Rajeev is doing) Never ever one can do that. Every language/culture in India is unique and have been evolved over a period on which we are just a small part.
Now coming back to your original question, it seems it is very hard for you to accept it that way. You problem is not accepting Hindi or claiming "Hey! I am also part of India", but your problem is accepting your culture proudly. Only then you can accept other culture proudly.
Hindi is a language understood and spoken by most part of India. No other Indian language can claim to have that reach. You can go to most of India (South India included) and still communicate with that. Is not it?

Mr Dash, Iwould like to say you that south has developedin IT bcas people who cheat (northies) are not part of IT boom. Otherwise they would claim hindi is a national language and would prepare questions in hindi and all jobs would be taken cae by them,thank god... it didnt happend as europeans and americans know wher they can unplug talent other than pseudo secularism. In chennai we can ehar telegu songs, In bangalore we can listen to hindi songs, IN trivandrum ,tamil songs, can you tell any one city in north india which does this... NOw tell me where is secularism and tolerance etc prevailing ..??????

I dont understand why s.indians have to be shameful talking in their native language. It is you who have to be ashamed for writing those comments. I don't feel ashamed to say, I am from TN, I am from AP after all they are all part of India not n.korea!!! Go live in pak, (bcos they speak ur lang) and u will be peaceful....

For those who question my indianess... I am very much an indian just as you, him, or her... just answer this: how does Tamil, Telugu become regional and Hindi alone is national ? They are all official languages of the indian federation. First you guys grow up and then you can blame for my so called narrow mindedness.

Dharma, u need to understand the reason why u dont hear tamil songs in delhi, or north in general, its because there arent any that many tamil people over there. Bangalore u can hear lots of tamil, telugu songs n movies because there are a lot of tamilians n telugus. Going by ur logic, i can say bangalore doesnt show punjabi, gujrati, bengali movies.. so try to think before u run ur mouth. Seems ur jus one of those southies who start boiling the moment they hear the word "hindi". Grow up!!

Just to answer all your questions!!
I am in IT for last 6 years and I have been across all the South Indian states, where I have spent a lot of time. I seen them closely and I do agree they are honest, hardworking like any descent Indian is. Now, IT is not for Northy or Southy, it is for all. "Information without boundaries" have been the motto. Any company with a biased outlook never grew up/survived. Azim Premzi is not a Southy and NRN is a not a Northy!
Regarding cheating ...In TN (I know 6 Indian Languages including Tamil), I never got away in any Govt. Dept without paying hefty bribe, be it a driving license,transfer of vehicle (inspite of me knowing the language). Hence, cheating is not region specific rather it is on that person. And corruption is rampant in TN's Govt. Dept as well.
On Songs being,played vini has answered it. Any there is no nation in the world, which is a developed one without a common language. English is out of question as it is not for a common man. They will never accept it also.
Finally who is having all the fun... this scoundrel named "Rajeev Srinivasan" (all nonsense that he has written) and of course guilty to party is Rediff.
