National Interest
by Vijay on Jul 01, 2006 11:08 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

We are all discussing this the wrong way - emotionally. The only relevant question is this: Is it in India's national interest to come to some kind of an accomodation with LTTE? The anwer is a no for the following reasons.

1. India should be seen as promoting democracy. LTTE has squelched all SL Tamil voices other than itself by a policy of terror and assasination. They are as far from democratic as can be.

2. It is in India's best interest to maintain good relations with Sri Lanka. Support for the LTTE would not further this cause.

3. It is in India's best interest to make sure the Sri Lankan Tamils get justice and are able to live as equal citizens of that state. A multi ethnic but unified Sri Lanka will validate and promote India's own multi ethnic character. LTTE is not willing to consider a unitary state solution, even if the Sri Lankan government agrees to constitutional guarantees for Tamil people's equality.

4. A break up of Sri Lanka may create instability that would not leave India untouched. The best way for India to ensure territorial integrity of Sri Lanka is by keeping the LTTE's power in check.

No i dont agree.

FREEDOM has to be given to all peoples in the world.

SRILANKA has to be divided and ELLAM should be freed from the occupiers.

Otherwise TAMILNADU and ELLAM will look for GREATER ELLAM that include indian TAMILNADU.

Do india want to loose the stratgeic border in south india. TAMILNADU is the only state that has links to all seas & ocean of india.

India has to be wise and free ELLAM very soon. Otherwise freedom thirst will be sowed in tamilnadu.
