It is an excellent presentation of a personal experience from a OBC and an IIT patron. His views are need to be understood by those elite students who aspire for IITs. Well done Sir.

Sometime back I read a article in one of the newspapers which said that the backward classes put togehter form the majority population of the country. If that be so, then how can the government think of giving reservations to a section of people who are in majority in the population???? Funny logic the government gives. Read the article by SS Gill in today's TOI ... he clearly indicates that reservation has always been used by politicians for their own benefits. The intention of the govt is completely selfish ... they are not bothered in any sense about the actual benefits reaching the people.

Let me give an example. We all aware of the fact that there are very few women representation in different job sectors, educational institutions and many other places. In modern days, at least in cities, boys and girls get almost equal opportunities in studies. Then the question is what is the difference between men and women. One possibility, which I dont accept and definitely all women will also not accept, is that men are in general more meritorious than women. If it is not the case, then another reason may be social. We often hear about social discrimination against women. I strongly believe, that the social problem is the reason behind less representation of women in different sectors. Therefore, I strongly support women reservation. I believe, the similar kind of social problems are also with backward classes. So if one accept women reservation due to social discrimination, then he/she should have to accept reservation for backward classes. Anyway, ancestors of our so called upper castes people committed many sin in the name of untouchabality. So the present generation has to suffer for that. I posted similar comments earlier, but it was completely unnoticed.Sorry for repeat.

Government has assured people that they will increase the seats so that students other than SC/ST/OBC's wouldnt be affected!!
How can we all accept this?
Imagine a father who always gives Rs 60 to one son and only Rs. 40 to another! One day to increase the affected's woes, he decides to give Rs. 74 to the preferred and Rs. 26 to another. So the son getting less finaly rebels! And father hails a judgement "I will shell out some more money, Rs. 150. I will make sure that the affected son will get his share of Rs. 40". In the course he is wanting us to forget that instead of Rs. 60 given to the preferred one, he now gives him Rs. 110.
Well if Government thinks this is "JUSTICE", please shut off each and every court of India including the "SUPREME COURT"!!!

This loud mouth would have definitly entered through a different kind of QUOTA ..SCOLARSHIPS!! Without this scolarship CRUTCH would this born-again Brahmin be able to acquire so many degrees. OTHERWISE which indian can afford the very, very high fees in foreign universities. The problem with these guys who desert the country & run abroad is once they are out of india they fancy themselves as BRAHMINS ! They suffer from a deep rooted "acceptence "problem. They get educated only to be accepted by the upper caste people . I know instances where these guys hound out and harrass the backward caste students in foreign universities like TEXAS on some pretext or other because they are sore the b/c,s/c,s/ts too get into elite foreign institutions. Go to hell man..we don't want you or your CRUTCHES.Go sell your goods elsewhere.

I would agree to certain extent that most of the SC/ST student in IIT are not quite upto the mark. Being a ex-IIT student myself, i know it pretty well. But let me just say.. They will fail once.. they will somehow survive this torrid time in the Top institute.. Finally they will manage to come out and work in top level companies.. The next generation of theirs is going to fare much better with all the resources.. Doesnt this serve the purpose already??. Problem with most of the people like Mr Gopinath is(even after being so educated and a prof at IIT itself) that they fail to see beyond a certain level.. All they see is today.. and just now.. not long term..
As for you being a OBC and proudly challenging the quota policy, i would like to ask you.. Just because you were able to cross it without the help of reservation (may be u were gifted) doesnt mean everyone else can. These people need push to come out of the rut they have been thrown into through centuries of opression. These people are as bright as anyone else could be... but without proper resources they are as good as brainless.. May be it is time that you think beyond yourself.. Good Luck!!

Dude Videshi Hater or whatever, lets face the truth. YOU ARE NOT FIT TO BE AMONG THE VIDESHIS. The truth is, when we come abroad, we do so against all odds. I for one took a loan to buy my air-ticket to come to the US inspite of having a full tuition waiver plus a scholarship. I do take pride in saying that we are among the best and the brightest that India has to showcase, who have come up inspite of immense odds in life and INSPITE of the screwed up Indian system. Let me tell you a short story, there was once a fox who was very hungry and thirsty and was roaming in the forest in search of food. He came across a juicy grape bunch hanging from a vine. The fox jumped and jumped and tried to reach the grapes. He gave up (ANOTHER SORE LOSER LIKE YOU) and went away, saying the Grapes are sour, who needs them anyways. You know dude, I challenge you to come to the US and make your mark. As a well-wisher, I will recommend you become some Bihari politician and go around burning effigies of hurricanes & cyclones (because it is hurricane season here) and protest against Hurricane Katrina. That would be a very intellectually stimulating experience for someone of your caliber.Too much for you?

Hey you guys..
we all know that the Divsion lines here are bcoz of the different castes then why the hell again we are asking for reservations on caste basis.. there should not be any BRAHMINS or any other upper caste or the backword caste. we should all come under one umbrilla.. u just dont go digging the past. These reservations may even worse the situation., and even more divide us..
These govts are all playing with us.. one is for uppercastes votebank and the other is for backward castes. Its not the reservations that change us rather its our attitude.. I saw a poor BRAHMIN who has struggled to pay nominal fees for his own studies and left his studies though he is brilliant. and i saw a backward class person, who is just neglecting the exams as he is having the reservation quota though he is having the caliber, and these 2 are my class mates. CLUTCHES are surely needed but it is definetly not on the basis of caste. It should only be for the needed people who ever they may be.
I strongly believe the govt is again bluffing us..
