The short answer is No. In reality the strong a vocal section of Sinhalese chauvinist control the political stage in SriLanka. The SriLankan president Rajapakse's has to pander to these forces. The Tamils are clearly a small but successful minority in SriLankan. Srilanka an 80-90% majority has no concept of accommodating the minority. The SriLankan army is a classic example of the Sinhalese chauvinism. The Sinhala majority has systemically eliminated Tamils from all forms of representation in the government (Army, Police, civic government -The Tamil MPs if ever elected are treated as dummies, if they dare speak out they will be eliminated (simply killed) in the name of encounters) And have been in the process of eliminating them altogether. Where else can one see a govt. that "carpet bombs" its own people the Tamils. Where else can you see a army/police that goes out and shoots every able bodied person it lays its eyes on. LTTE leader Prabkhakaran on the other hand is somebody who believes violence can solve everything. He believes he and only he is the person who has the right to speak up for the Tamils any body else who speaks be eliminated. In the midst Tamils suffer.
