Bye Bye Nuclear research.
by A Citizen on Jul 27, 2006 11:27 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

The entire nuclear programme in India seems to be in trouble. When India exploded a nuclear device the world feared India was building nuclear weapons. India has always maintained that, its nuclear programme is for peaceful uses only. And more importantly India has no intentions of developing or using nuclear weapons will not be sign the NPT.
The Americans have merely interpreted what India has been saying all along, to serve their own interest.
What has been wrong with the past that we have to sign a fuel supply agreement with such strong "ropes" tied to it;now?
As it is we wish to develop our nuclear programme indigenuously, then why have we chosen this shortcut.
We have large reserves of thorium for nuclear fuel then why have we decided to abandon our effort to extract nuclear fuel.
It appears that there are deeper economic reasons are driving our action, and India's establishment has no use for research as an economic activity. This stand is completely opposite to the policy of the advanced countries.
By abandoning research we are bidding goodbye to the collective pioneering spirit in search of some elusive economic gain It is a sad day for our country.
