The Indian media unfailingly paints the last assembly elections in Kashmir as free and fair. Are there any genuine, third party reports on the elections that seem to concur ? Was the turnout really as high as the Indian media machine makes it out to be ? I am an Indian and I have learnt after moving abroad that the power of subtle propaganda by the state machinery cannot be overestimated, even in a democratic country with a free press. Any references or opinions would be welcome.
