Jaisingh's comments resemble the logics of people who had argued that 'the constitution failed us rather than us failing the constitution or better still things are just fine with the system'.The Judicial system in this country works on facts and thus the phrase 'andha kanoon'.It still works and is accepted because it delivers most of the time. The supreme court's involvement was not incidental; in a case like this the apex court 'will' be involved if there is a suspicion of miscarriage of justice. Also, the current verdict is not the ultimate truth and the attitude that the whole world knows who are the culprits is a system practised in countries like Saudi Arabia where instant justice has resulted in death for innocents (an Indian recently). The fact that the riots were spontaneous reaction to burning down of the train should not absolve a person or group in any way and yet it remains a 'fact' not an emotional assumption. It may also be helpful to remind oneself that the perpetrators of Godhra are still far from conviction.
