CJI and Caste
by Suman Nanda on Dec 22, 2006 09:35 PM   Permalink

It is heartening that the gandhian dream of democracy is happening, with people from all sections of society are reaching the pinacle of success due to their calibre, diligence and determination. However, when Balakrishnan's appointment makes more news because of his caste and not caliber, this questions our own perverse way of observation. I am sure a pre-perverse generation(VP Singh, Ram Vilas Paswan, Sharad Ydav and Arjun Singh) India wont have noticed that element in the CJI's CV, but then after Mandal, life was never the same again.
I was defeated and let down by my own generation, when the Rahul Gandhi, Jyoti Scindhia, Sachin Pilot and Omar Abdullas are silent observers of the act. VJP's hindutva is merely an anti-others propaganda and not a self cleansing motto. The harvards, the IITians and the educated of my generation are incapable impotents.
Fair enough, at least the judiciary still breaths the air of calibre. Media is learning to get its spine back. Jessica Lall and Priyadarshini Matoo's have gotten their justice.
We will survive this holocaust of caste based hatred as well, may be in 100 years.
