I fully agree and can relate to the pain felt on the shoddy treatment by ones own people. The Indian Airport Officials are probably the coldest and their inhuman behaviour is barbaric
I would like to recall my painful experience at the IGI Airport at Delhi in October 2006. My in-laws were to arrive from Canada by Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt scheduled to arrive around midnight. Both are elderly and in addition my Father-in-Law in visually handicapped and needs help. We actually panicked when they did not come even 2 hrs after the flight landed.
We wanted to see the incharge at the Airport but security personnel at the airport. We tried everything and all our requests went unheard. The security would not just let us approach the Officials. What good is an official if he sits in an office that\'s in no-entry zone for the public?
As a last resort we went to the Lufthansa counter at the terminal. The gentleman made us comfortable told us they had missed the Luft because of a delayed connecting flight and were being put on an AI flight from Paris and gave us the details of the AI flight. on approaching the AI counter the person didnt even turn his head to listen to our pleas.

"EVEN AFTER VERIFYING ALL the papers. I faced this many times. Talk to those pigs on humanity"
I am sure it did, if you call someone a "pig" expect you would be treated like one too. Of course it had NOTHING to do with "brown skin" ..As a regular traverler, I have had NO hassle with US side for last 30 years and 100+ trips in US, and that includes the time when we lost/forgot and had NO documents with us.
The thugs at Mumbai were NOT doing their job, for crying out loud, these kids wiere PIO/had valid visa, a fact one can easily check even if they did not have documents with them.
I live in Ohio too, and I know I people here at the airport are very professional and polite, to everyone except those who are bigoted enough to call other pigs.

dear rajatji
no country would imprison its own people in a 'high security prison' for forgetting a visa...i m sorry to notice u r changing the goal posts by comparing how US officers treat indian citizens. the question is how would US officers treat returning US citizens?
with courtesy and consideration....however, if they did have a criminal record or they were suspicious...your favorite prison comes into play..with of course a lawyer and a trial...
MERA BHARAT MAHAN...is not just a slogan...its a mentality...its an idea..and a way of living...it should be reflected in everything we do....the first point of contact is the immigration console...
just because WESTERN embassies are inconsiderate to indians....infact, all the more reason to be even more accomodative to returning indians.
