Nuclear Agreement
by Dr. M. C. Gupta on Dec 09, 2006 09:52 PM   Permalink

It is strange to find important persons in Scientific & political fields are critical about the Nuclear Agreement which was passed by US Senate yesterday. These gentlemen are trying to find points to criticize PM for this great Bill. It is historic for many reasons - an Agreement such as this could be signed favouring India who has not signed NPT yet. India which does not have cheap coal (bad quality), no cheap source of oil - nuclear power is the only alternative for augmenting power supply which has been short since independence. Hopefully GOI will amend Nuclear Act which will enable Private sector to go for nuclear power. In years to come India can have sufficient power to meet her industrial, agricultural, domestic & other requirements of power which will help rapid industialization of this country. France produces 80% power from nuclear plant as they donot have cheap coal or oil similar to our situation.
Our prominent Nuclear scientist would rather have few dozens more Atom Bomb rather than sufficient power to cater for total requirements of India. Our PM is a shrewed economist & knows well what is good for this country & is not cowed down by old Atomic Scientists.
