I totally agree that there should be general awareness in people that everyone is equal(just like Mahatma preached). Its insulting to our nation and founding fathers when the same people who seem to respect them doesn't follow their principles or ideology.
But there's no justification of what happened in mumbai. How can you explain this to our kids that its ok to riot, killing, and causing public inconvenience? There's always a right way to express dissatisfaction(gandhi showed us the way).
I also am not comfortable with the emotional aspect which writer brings up. Nothing can be achieved by being emotional(except for politicians caching on it to get votes). Being emotional is the easiest thing to do. People has to be maintain composure in times like this, but bring up the issue to everyone's attention, explain it and get their viewpoint across the table. Its not easy, but the success would be guaranteed(even though it might take time[like everything else in india]).
As far as reservations, I totally agree that deserving socially backward people should get reservations. Emphasize on deserving. And its a moral obligation for people who enjoyed reservation to help their brothers.
