Politicians and religious leaders always strive to divide our nation so that they can rule effortlessly. Thats why people like Arjun Singh rake up controversial issues. I must say he has succeeded as I see in this forum a lot of distrust between ordinary peace loving Hindus and Muslims. Vande Mataram is just a peotry which has been given a cult status. Even though am a Bengali Hindu I have never sang Vande Mataram because it may be a beautiful poem but it never gives me that sense of patriotism which is provided by Jana Gana Mana, which unifies and binds the whole of India together rather than dividing it. Its not necessary that if Muslims do not sing Vande Mataram they become less patriotic whereas if a Hindu sings it he becomes more. I am sure there are a whole bunch of unpatriotic Hindus (one notable example being Sadhu Yadav and his clan), similarly there are patriotic or unptriotic Muslims, Sikhs, Christians. What I mean to say is that patriotism is individual matter and let us not judge an entire community with the presence or absence of it. else we will continue playing in hands of politicians like Arjun Singh and our country will go to dogs.

Religion was created to divide uneducated people and rule them. The ones who created religion did it for the purpose of feeling powerful, being followed, becoming popular and basically exploting the idiots for their own benefits.
So if you are educated, take this religion crap out of your mind. It does not matter what religion you are from, they all stem from the same cause as mentioned above. To hell with the Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Parsi, Christian, etc. religions, they don't teach you jack, there is only one truth and that is -there is GOD and he does not give a rat's asssss for your religion.
So pls guys rise above this......but again if you are uneducated, its not your fault, you may continue.
India comes before everything, even before your parents and relatives. You should be ready to disown your own mother if she is 'in the wrong' when it comes to India.
whether a song is in hindi, urdu or gurbani, if it is considered a national song, you must SING or LEAVE, its that simple and pls grow above religion.
Pls do not play into the hands of fanatics whether they are Hindu or Muslim.... there is a reason why we call them that.... pls show that u are educated....Sumit

@Asif, I fully agree with you. I am hindu Indian but I have full and whole hearted respect for Islam. As I follow and practice my religion, I have read books on Islam. Islam is not bad, but there are many leaders in the muslim community who are earning a bad name for their community. I dont see a single Muslim scollar or leader who has categorically rejected the demands of Shahi Imam and others of not sung the Vende Matram. People follow their religious leaders. I am wondering what will happen to the next generations if their peers are like this. This is a high time that big muslim religious scollars and leaders stands for their own country i.e. India. or this 5% will rise to a bigger number and people like you would less and lesser. At the same time Hindu and Muslim communities to respect each other religion, faith. No religion is small or bigger, bad or good, all are just different ways to reach HIM (ALLAH or RAM).

This is the message of Tagore, once and for all, for all disgracers of our beautiful national anthem.
In a letter to Pulin Behari Sen, Tagore himself wrote:
"A certain high official in His Majesty's service, who was also my friend, had requested that I write a song of felicitation towards the Emperor. The request simply amazed me. It caused a great stir in my heart. In response to that great mental turmoil, I pronounced the victory in Jana Gana Mana of that Bhagya Vidhata [ed. God of Destiny] of India who has from age after age held steadfast the reins of India's chariot through rise and fall, through the straight path and the curved. That Lord of Destiny, that Reader of the Collective Mind of India, that Perennial Guide, could never be George V, George VI, or any other George. Even my official friend understood this about the song. After all, even if his admiration for the crown was excessive, he was not lacking in simple common sense."
"He (Tagore) got up very early in the morning and wrote a very beautiful poem.... When he came down, he said to one of us, 'Here is a poem which I have written. It is addressed to God, but give it to Congress people. It will please them

Namaskar!
My first remark is for people like Kamaal who belong to the ignorant class of Hindu baiting.
Vande Mataram is never sung in praise of a particular Goddess in any temple or Hindu home in India...because this song is a patriotic song and not a devotional song!
If someone were to impose "Saraswati Namastubhyam" on all schools then probably you could say that there has been a communal tinge imposed.
Vande Mataram is definitely a much richer song in verse and lyrics than Jana Gana mana....not that I am demeaning Guruji Thakur, but the fact is that the Jana Gana Mana got a political favour from the Congress under Nehru and Vande Mataram dropped out of favour...
Kamaal and friends should realise that if they value patriotism they must acknowledge the greatness of our motherland..and what way better than to sing Vande Mataram!

Its said that half truths are more dangerous than blatant lies. Your message is nothing bu half truth. It was an email which was floating for quite sometime and in which people lost interest pretty soon. Now what is Jana gana mana? Its a fact that u like a lot of other educated Indians have completely misundertsood the song and now misguiding other people. Jana Gana was composed by Tagore much before Matilal Nehru asked it to be sung for the king. It was composed to the honour of a country called India and its God of destiny. If you closely follow the next two stanzas and understand its meaning, u will notice that it cant be addressed to any human being. As to the names of states - doesnt Dravida cover entire South India? and Utkala and Banga are surrogates for whole of Eastern India, Vindhya for central and Himachala for the whole of Northern India? which other parts of India are left? The princely state propaganda is entirely false. And prey do not ever express a doubt over patriotism over of aperson who renounced Knighthood in protest against Jalianwalabagh and devoted his entire life to Nationalistic causes: Surely you do not believe he would have eulogised a British monarch

Well spoken Asif. In fact most of the people writing messages here do not know anything about the topic they are writing on. But just because they can have the message posted they are doing it. I think rediff should have a filtering system to see whether a message is even fit enough to be posted.
Vande Mataram is a song in our blood. I grew up singing it in my school. People like Bukhari are nothing but opportunists (just like BJP's Narendra Modi) who want to keep raking up non-issues. If Bhukari has a problem with Vande Mataram he can pack his bags and immigrate to some other country. Because I know that majority of the Indian Muslims have no problem with the song.

Hey Bodhi or whatever your name is How many schools in India teach the outdated and ancient sanskrit language...or a better question...just tell me the number of person's whose first language is Sanskrit? Be practical dude And FYI, I know the meaning of Vande Mataram, and it is against my religious beliefs. So, I'll never sing it but can die for India if communal minded people like you try to divide Indians just for silly reasons. God bless India and all Indians, including Anti-Indians like you! :)
