The post by Rediff,inviting comments on how to make India a superpower is cruel on this land. My question is: Why should India become a super power?.Look at Sweden, Germany, Holland, and many other prosperous countries; these are not superpowers and neither do they aim to be.They go about their business and ensure that their citizens and their own environment are well cared for. This is all that we need to do. The vision of India propounded by our founding fathers such as Gandhiji, Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri and even Sardar Patel never thought in these terms. They sought peaceful coexistence with all and sought to do all that was essential to see that our civilization remained alive, vibrant and creative. Why can't we do just that instead of harbouring visions of hegemony and projecting Military power beyond our shores? History is testimony, that being a superpower is not exactly glorious. Today, we are a young nation in terms of our average age. We had always been so for the last over 100 years because of the low life expectancy and high birth rate. There is nothing redeeming in being very young save hope.
