Where have these people been all these decades, when Pak's entire fury and hatred was directed at Inidia's total destruction? Now that the games's up and Pak is seen as the epicenter of terror and evil, and especially now that a wiser Uncle Sam's no longer willing to issue blank checks, the Pakis are trying to rehabilitate themselves by making such self-critical noises - more like eating crow than apologizing for their evil deeds.
