Does Mumbai have a disaster plan?
by Kirat Mehta on Sep 26, 2005 08:16 PM   Permalink

It does matter a lot that Mumbai should have a disater plan. Assuming that it does, itis the duty of the Administration and/orthe Disaster Management Committee to make it known to the public at large, who are actually the ones who have to face the brunt
and take the beating each time a disaster occurs.
Nowthat the monsoons are over or atleast it appears to have ended, this Disaster Management Plan be putout to the public for scrutiny.
There will be valuable inputs from the experience of 26/7. This can be taken into consideration and modifications etc can be done well in time before the next season. By April 15, 2006, this final plan for the coming monsoon should be in place for implementation as and when required.
Disasters can occur in many ways, what about an earthquake of a severe magnitude? It will spell catastrophic damage more than what we can even begin to imagine.
Wake up gentlemen and do not wait for the next monsoon to be at the door step and then pull out the plans from moth balls!!
