I think sania mirza shuld be given the freedom to choose her dress code. no maulavi has any rite to take it from her. or if she prefers she can go short pants as Martina navratilova wears. Secondly the maulavi shuld be more worried about the muslim women in hyderabad who are fooled by the Arabs coming over and marrying them for a day and then divorsing them the second day.

Dr Farhan the moulvi is not ok even with below the knee, he does not want any part of the body to be exposed.
Also the tennis body regulates what is allowed to be worn, including length ! And they do not allow shorts for women !
So please check on your facts before putting your personal values on another person.
There is Nigar Khan ( the model) who was even snapped topless on a ramp and whose costumes do not leave anything to be desired and you have to go pick on a person who is just a normal average person in an average dress. !

Farhan: I believe that any mullah/maulvi who issues an fatwa should be kicked out of India. In India everyone is free to practice religion as they wish. Sania Mirza can do whatever she wants, she can wear whatever she wants, it is her life and her freedom. She is not some property of some Muslims. She is a human being and has her right to choice. She has a right to practice "her own" version of Islam. Remember, India is a free country - not an intolerant Islamic state. So Sania does not have to wear a burkha like the Iranians. Some Muslims think they have a right to deny her the freedom just because she is born a Muslim. How stupid! This is India, a free country. People who don't like freedom should get out of India and go live in an intolerant Islamic country like Pakistan or Saudi.

I disgree with the statment that wearing a skirt below knee level should hinder any speed or efficeincy in the game.Even in modern tennis, we see Andre Agassi, Pete sampras , Safin, and fedrer , regularly wearing shorts which are well below the knees...saniya or any female player wearing min skirts and tight T-shirts has nothing to do with the game.men's tennis requires far more speed and agility , and if they can carry out with loose T-Shirts and shorts then why cant women?

Its funny to say that people dont take the sports because of the dress...You are talking about the place where many gilrs dont get a chance to go to school (let alone sports!!) and that is not because of the dresscode but just because of the fact that they are girls...

I am sorry Dr. Farhan, but i feel like getting the most powerful mike - output focused on your ears - and scream my lungs out into your ears -
"WHY SHOULD SHE??!!".
What if this moulvi figured out a distorted meaning of something in the Holy scriptures - & said - that doctors were to wear dear horns on their heads & long skirts like dress - to get their best out -- yeeeahh...say wat dr. farhan?
