I agree with you entirely. This situation also arises from a misreading of democratic functioning by most people. Dr.Manmohan Singh argued sometime back that tainted ministers CAN continue to hold power because they were elected by the people. This ignores the fact that political parties are NOT private entities, driven by market forces. Parties are supposed to be owned by the public; we, the people are supposed to have a say not just in elections, but also in nominations WITHIN a party. The crime was not committed by the people who put the Congress in power; it was committed by the Congress party leadership in 1997, when they offered the leadership of the most powerful party in India to Sonia Gandhi, a political novice. They did this because they thought party leadership could be given by them to anybody, without involving the public in the debate. By offering her the leadership for free, they ignored the interests of India and acted like a privately owned company. At every level in Indian politics, political parties are owned by private interests and act out of private interests.
