Incorrect Facts
by Sim on Oct 17, 2005 12:51 AM   Permalink

It's sad to read that intellectuals in Pakistan Like the author are also trying to defend the false pride of refusing the genuine effort of help and aid from India. Indian troops falsely claiming of helping across the LOC and actions like that was the reason why Pak refused aid - what can be more flimsy than that. To set the facts straight - Indias offer of helicopters was refused. Same for joint rescue operations along the quake-ravaged frontier. And while Indian blankets, tents and medicine has been accepted, no doctors or NGOs appear to be welcome on the other side.
The larger politics and the maintainence of anti India image seems to be more important than the lives of a couple of thousand people that could possibly have been saved had the aid offer been accepted - leave alone the bearing it would have had on the Indo-Pak relations which now more seems like an international propaganda to hide the rality than any thing else.
I wish all the luck to the people affected and may they recover soon from the enormous tragedy - but at least for the intellectuals like Mr. Mir, I would suggest it's time to get over the farce and acknowledge the reality.
