the unpricipled babu
by Seema Suryesh on May 16, 2005 05:34 PM   Permalink

I sincerely wish that the problem of Indias Corruption Rating was limited to Babus or IAS officers as suggested in the article. Take a close look, Corruption (all in capitals) is the philosophy of Indian life style.

As a society, we get what we appreciate. You appreciate sports, youll have good sportsman. You appreciate accumulation of (ill-gotten) wealth and your hands will be full of corrupt guys. Believe it our society value money over anything else, now, good/bad origin of the money is absolutely regardless. Principles may all the time go to hell. In our day to day life, we do not give preference to an honest person over a corrupt chap. We tag him as outdated and treat them like dirt. We love and respect corrupt and wealthy people not an honest babu, of course.
