Denial of visa insult: Modi
by anirvan lahiri on Mar 19, 2005 05:24 AM   Permalink

Yeah right... butchering a couple of thousand people while the chief minister of the state and the law apparatus look on is about respect for the Indian constitution and denying Modi a visa is a threat to the concept of Indian nationhood. To be sure there is an insult in the elected head of an Indian state being denied a visa by a friendly nation. But there is a far greater insult implied to the Indian constitution by the very fact of a man like Modi being in power. If you allow a thug to be an office bearer of the state, you cannot afford to act hurt when your neighbours call a spade a spade and slam the door on his face. I never though I will find myself cheering the Bush administration's foreign policy. But on this occasion, they have got it resoundingly, stingingly right. Modi is a blot on the face of Indian democracy and now the hold world knows it. What's there to be so outraged about?
