Plight of the impaired!
by Baskaran m on Jun 13, 2005 12:02 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

This is just the glimpse of the iceberg of the problem of impaired in our massive country. And the parents decided to do this because they are girls. If it were boys, they would have left them to fend themselves somehow!! Such is the pitiable condition. The government's Rs 500 is peanuts for their problems. And the hassle to get it due to the red tapism is even worse and agonising for these disabled. The manpower to fend for these people such as Medical Social Workers and the rehab. infrastructure and network in this country is yet to be completely useful for them. NGOs try doing the max. but the problem is enormous. More than this, the preventive strategies to avoid handicaps in industry, congenital defects etc., is nowhere in place. The least we can do is help such individual people near us in whatever manner we can - atleast for now. I would like to help - if I know from the rediff correspondent, how I can help sending some money directly for the rehab of these girls. It may not be enough for their lifetime but it can be a drop in the ocean!
