Mumbai's Heroes
by Baba Handa on Jul 27, 2005 05:30 PM   Permalink

It is so very encouraging to read about the heroics of the local people of Kurla. Most of the time it is ordinary men and women who do extra ordinary things and become motivational heroes for the rest of us....they need to be eulogised and recognised.

The Rediff scribe certainly did yeoman service by remaining in contact with the people. In such moments, a calm voice, a bit of reassurance is all that is needed to keep the spitits of the affected persons high. Well done sir!

However, a word of caution....the authorities too were faced with an unprecedented event and they must have been stretched to their very limits and beyond. I am sure that none of them would have shirked responsibility of saving lives and bringing succour to the affected people but may not have been able to reach all persons at all places. Therefore, we must not be uncharitable and denigrade them in anyway, they are the backbone of our system and we owe it to them. It is a time when all must stand together and fight the menace of nature and get Mumbai back to work.
