I watched the DD live telecast fully. It looked to me that the fucntion represented the rise of Tamil chauvinism to its crescendo with nostalgic references to Cholas, Cheras, Pandyas and Palalvas. It was wholly a DMK show with an eye on the forthcoming TN assembly elections. TR Baalu the concerned minister could have used the occasion the government's plans and projects to improve port infrastructure in the country. Defence Minsiter could have been invited to the function who could have said a few words, for the be fit of the peoople and the world outside about how we are tackling the marine assets of ours in tandem with defence efforts. The opportunity was missed.
The needless dig by a communist leader who spoke on the occasion of TN CM even if she had boycotted the function could have been avoided.
Protocol was missed perhaps when I found the FM queueing behind the junior Dayanidhi Maran. Of course it is a DMK show and such niceities cannot be expected!
