DRDO has been doing a good job from 1958. but they could have done e better job if they were able to attract the best minds in nation to work with them. true, DRDO does recruit the best minds in the country. (in many NITs they are the first to go for campus selsction) a young graduate who would join as Scientist 'B' in DRDO would get approximately 13500 rupees as salary. but his classmates who could nt get through DRDo interview would join MNCs and would be paid double that amount!!!
added to that is the beaurocratic formalities of DRDo as a govt organisation. and within an year the less paid graduate gets frustrated by the formalities like "cash purchase", "work order", "local purchase" etc.
and he looks for placement in ANY private firm.
and thus DRDO loses their best recruits.
solution is to increase the pay. at least to the level of PSUs like NTPC, ONGC or BSNL.
better still..... PRIVATISE DRDO!!! If that happens it would challenge NASA.
