Jayalalitha talks rubbish
by Harsha Ramamurthy on Jan 12, 2005 09:48 AM   Permalink

Jayalalitha, by arguing that the centuries old tradition of the Kanchi Mutt of the Shankaracharyas performing Chandramoulishwara Pooja without fail has not been affected by the arrest of the junior pontiff as there have been instances when both the pontiffs have been away from the mutt, has only highlighted her total ignorance of the functioning of the esteemed Mutt. The Chandramoulishwara Linga, believed to have been given by Lord Shiva to Adi Shankaracharya, has been worshipped for ages in the Mutt. Four other Lingas believed to have been given along with this Linga are worshipped in Kedarnath, Nepal, Chidambaram and Sringeri. Pilgrimage tours form a major religious duty of the Shankaracharyas and when they travel, they carry the sacred Linga and other deities along with them, ensuring that the Pooja is performed without fail. The places they camp are also chosen carefully to suit these religious observances. Thus, one of the Shankaracharyas performs the Pooja without fail, even when they are away from the Mutt. So, if the two Shankaracharyas are arrested, should they carry the deities also to the prison? So Amma has proved that like her actions, her words make little sense too.
