diabettic awareness
by Dr Nitin J. Mehta on Dec 07, 2005 11:26 AM   Permalink

My mother died of complications from diabetes way back in 1983.That time I [ then 47 yrs ]got investigated, was found to be pre-diabetic.Slowly I started with mild excercises, long walks,& jogging. Having to work supervising in cinical biochemistry laboratory made me interseted in ditery aspects controlling this disease, had cataract operations after this.I worked for over 40 yrs in this field in a senior position.
Recently, for the awareness programme, Ihave sent a write up to The Times of India, WELLNESS on Diabetics- know the glycemic index & glcemic load of the common foods consumed.
Today, at the age of 68 yrs, I walk daily for more than an hr, jogg sometimes , at present in Sydney -Au, or on the seaside at Worli, Mumbai, India.
I will appreciate if other sports personalities join the awareness programmes for diabetics or other diseases, the initiative taken by a person like Wassim Akram who fought the disease and remained on top should be applauded & even for his frank admission. This also a good gesture by a pharma co. to felicitate youngsters.
