I take exception to the author mentioning Burkha and Sati in the same vein. Burkha or Hijab is for the modesty of women. Muslim women wear the hijab not because the muslim men have forced them to do so . It is because Allah has commanded them to do so. We muslims dont want our women to be marketed on the streets in the name of Art & culture. Islam stands for upliftment of women. When 1400 yrs ago women were being buried alive.......Islam gave economic rights to women. Covering the body modestly does not amount to opression. We muslims are totally aginst objectification of women. women are being used as objects for business development, leading to moral depravity and the degradation of the soul.

Naheed seems to be still living in Eighteenth century mindset. He says that no men are "forcing" women to wear burqas; go to Saudi Arabia and find out yourself, they not only force Muslim women but also other women who dont subscribe to Islam. If Allah has commanded that women should wear burqas, so be it; but why should the nonAllahs issue fatwas about it? Let those who do not carry out the command of Allah get punished on the Judgement Day; are these men duly appointed Agents of Allah to issue their own commands? And do you mean to say that all those women who do not wear burqas are immodest? It is a stupid thought and can only enter a sick mind.
