India a proud nation and 1984

We, are a nation of pride hungry Indians who take false pride in almost everything. Consider some of the statements that we use often, such as -That we are a nation of 100 crore people, That we are the largest democracy in the world, That Bollywood is fast gaining popularity abroad , That Lakshmi mittal the third richest man in the world is an indian (Although he may have investments worth billions of pounds in seven countries across the globe with not a single penny invested in india) etc.

But have we ever endeavoured to transcend these walls of falsehood to see what the reality of india actually is, for its by and large poor population. No, probably never because we are indifferent to the lives of others around us. The Thought of a farmer, who grows food for us rich people living in cities all his life the tought that he may have to committ suicide some day along with his family because he would not be in a position to repay his debt, never comes to our mind. A labourer, who sweats whole day counstructing houses for the rich people but will never have a chance to stay in the same house that he toils to build during his lifetime, is a nobody to us.
