Mumbai Rains
by Shubhadeep Sinha on Aug 10, 2005 03:47 PM   Permalink

The drainage system in mumbai and the suburbs needs to be improved drastically. Its archaic. Iam aware of a place in Vasai, where the mumbai rains couldn't cause much havoc purely because of good drainage system in that area. This drainage system was put in place with collaboration of international bodies.
Something similar can help the rest of the mumbai/suburbs.
Also flood management experts should be called in to give training to our mumbai authorities. This should have been done after tsunami experience since there's a coastline even in mumbai and suburbs.
Also, where are our famed filmstars/NGOs who claimed to have actually worked in tsunami affected villages?
Lastly, we should have mumbai rain- floods benefit fund as we had for tsunami affected people, so that there is no shortage of money/ relief materials for the people.
