The lessons learnt would be ''short-lived''
by Sawal Das Jethani on Aug 03, 2005 03:03 PM   Permalink

No doubt about the fact that the "machinery" in Mumbai failed completely, BMC being the prime culprit. But we are also to be blamed for the same.

Instead of selecting corporators & politicians on basis of merit & what good they can do to the society, we select them on "party" or "caste/religion", worst on celebrity status (recent example of Govinda who displayed his ignorance on basic things like PIL etc).

It would be still foolish to think that any of the departments would change for better themselves. To make any difference to the city, we have to strongly support people like Mahesh Bhatt & Koel Puri who are planning to file a PIL against the Government, in spite of no harm happening to them.

My worry is not what has happened, my worry is that like so many crimes of various politicians & celebrities have been forgotten in the past, this issue would also be forgotten in a few days time & our children might face a bigger disaster.

People of Mumbai have gone through tears & sweat,

In a month all this Mumbaikars would forget,

His seat again the respected politician will get,

In a few years again we would cry & sweat!
