Stop blaming the rains
by syed azeem on Aug 02, 2005 03:25 PM   Permalink

Zubin Mehta has aptly put it and kudos to him that he sees what every Indian sees in the disaster that the Civic Planners of Mumbai have created. Its a Frankestein gone out of Control.Unabated illegal constructions popping up in every nook and corner with infrastructure at one hundredth the size to manage and support these behemoths.Low lying areas which are prone to waterlogging get approval from the so called authorities to be developed.Illegal hutments are allowed to crop up in sections of the city so that the so called votebanks of the local MLA's and National MP's getting re-elected from these constituencies remains unaffected.Lets agree we the citizens of this country are nothing but akin to the malarial mosquito immune to quinine. We have let this happen right under our noses cared a damn.To realize one day that we would be the price ultimately and not the so called keepers of the Constitution. The buck stops with us and not with the Chief Minister of Maharashtra or the Prime Minister of India, it is we who lose our lives our families our children not them.We pay the price when the policeman takes bribe, when the BMC Engineer lets your neighbour build illegally.
